facebook messaging help?

hello on facebook my friend sent me a message i clicked messages and it shows the few words starting the conversation as usual and then you have to click it and that little chat box comes up as usual on the bottom right corner but it is completely empty there are no words at all and i can not read what he said or conversations in the past through messages. This is very weird and is only happening between this friend, others friends messages will show up in the box and past conversations.
refresh doesn't do anything only tecnology i have and use is a laptop
