Affiliate links are universally seen as spam by almost all sites, including Yahoo Answers, which will banish accounts of repeat spammes.

It's best to create your own hosting review site providing quality content that search engines will list, not only does this attract free visitors but your link is given in a content where you can presell it a bit.

There certainly shady tricks employed, people on Fiverr.com offer to create a wordpress blog site for $5 but only if you use their recommended host, which actually earns the site maker $100.

Some affiliates profit using paid advertising with the affiliate link, but testing is expensive and far from a sure thing.
