if i have my own hosting, paid for, and my own domain name?
does that mean i can put an affiliate link on my blog? even if it's on wordpress.com. because i heard wordpress.com doesnt allow affiliate programs. does that mean they can stop me from putting affiliate links on my blog if i pay for my own hosting?

If you setting up a Wordpress blog using a hosting service, you can put whatever affiliate links and whatever content you want, on that blog/website. I'd suggest you have a look at the cheap unlimited hosting plans on eBay. They are really cheap and great - I've bought 1-2 years of unlimited hosting for as little a $2.99.

If your looking for a nice front-end/theme to go on your Wordpress blog and if you've got a little bit of cash to spend, I'd suggest you have a look at a website called Themeforest.net

Wordpress.org supplied code has no ad or affiliate link restrictions, it's just the hosting arrangement that matters.

"Free" hosts like wordpress.com make some revenue from placing ads on sites they host, some like hubpages and squidoo have revenue sharing schemes, laving it to the users to place the ads.

The popular Adsense ad revenue system requires the owner of the domain name to sign up to the program, those using free subdomains are usually ineligible for Adsense. You can pay a fee to wordpress.com to enable a custom domain on their site, which cuts them out of the ad revenue.

Google's Blogger.com is one exception that allows you to earn Adsense revenue from a free subdomain, unlike some other free hosts they don't levy a host tax.

If you paid for the premium option on Wordpress.com, yes you can add affiliate links to your site. The area to double check is below:
