How to set up realistic goals for a new website?
I'm working on an online marketing plan for a new website. I would need to set up monthly goals for visitors (source, region and quantity), page rank and sales. We'll drive traffic using PPC and social media. Any suggestion how to establish those goals? What would realistic? Is there any standard percentage that I could use? Thank you!
Barbara
The website sells bride jewels. Although it's online there no almost no traffic or data to use. It was lunched few weeks ago.

Do you have analytics set up? I use Google analytics and you can establish goals there. I am not familiar with any other analytics programs but I am assuming you can do this with most of them.

Testing and tracking are essential for making PPC work, you need to get some real world results as soon as possible rather than getting too caught up in imaginary number projections. not having a clue as to what your venture is, I can just suggest you consider growth estimates based on taking out no profits for a considerable amount of time, steering any revenues toward increased promotion.

Many sites live off of fre search traffic, do a careful analysis of the top ranked sites for the valuable searches in your field, examine the competition's site quality and backlink profile to get a feel for what you would have to do to out rank them.

You may not have shard enough about the field your operating in. It might be dumb to make a wight loss or money making site that has to compete with millions of other sites doing the same thing.

Market samuri is one tool that reduces statistical data on a market to easy to digest forms, like a color coded indicator of the competition level for certain keyword searches. Project hard traffic estimates is tough, again comparing your site's qualities ti the established competition is one solid measurement.

About 34% of search clicks are on the #1 result, dropping 2 places in the search results halves the number of clicks,

Hello Barbara,
Unless you rely only on paid traffic it's impossible for a new site to forecast the number of visitors. The Google is quite unpredictable.
Same with social media. You can do your best but unless you actually do it you won't know how many people will come.
You can look at this thing this way: figure out how much money you could spend on paid traffic. Then, using the common conversion rates in your industry you could try to figure out the amount of visitors and buyers.
Wishing you all the best.
