how to do proper keyword research?
I understand the theory of keyword research perfectly but I do not know how to put it into practice.

How do I optimize the article titles?

If i wanted to write an article like "Keyword Research: How to optimize article titles," would you research the entire string or each of its parts?

How would you finally decide what to use?

How do you then optimize the content to include High traffic and low competition keywords?

Is there any good tool to use to do this? For some reason the google adwords tool doesn't make much sense to me and it seems more targeted towards paid advertising than organic searching

In these times of revised SEO due to the changing Google algo, your main goal is to provide content that perfectly fits your target audience. Do not go crazy on keywords as Google has become good at detecting over optimized website. Long tail keywords are still advisable but you will need to create variations as well. So you can mix up all of the terms.

Here are tips (and some tools as you requested)

First, analyze the market and you audience
-Visit forums to know the most common terms used by people
-Visit your competitor blogs and check for the terms used by bloggers and commenters
-Go to ubersuggest or lsi keywords and check for keyword variations
-use Google free tools to shortlist your collection of keywords - Keyword planner, Google Trends, Google Insights
-Use Traffic Travis (it is free) to analyze and compare competition (alternatives: market samurai)
-Collect all the closely related keywords and incorporate all of them in your content
-Make sure you develop a high quality and unique content that will answer the problems or needs of your audience..

Keep in mind that traditional SEO may not be effective anymore. Don't go crazy on keywords. Just make your link profile diverse, make your site more social, and your design responsive. Google measure social interaction signals more than ever so balance everything. You can get more insights through Del Asks dot com.

Hi Jeff, Keyword research is fairly simple to find relevant keywords along with there competition and monthly views, you go to Google and look up Google keyword planner its free. You type in phrases to get ideas and once you find the phrase you want to use (try to use long tail phrases) you take the phrase and use it as your tittle of your post and include it a few times in your post but don't over do it. That's the basics I hope that this helps you out for a more in depth look at keyword research check out my blog spot site. http://thageekzone.blogspot.com/2013/05/...works.html
