We're against objectifying women? Objectification is all over our media, we literally integrate women's bodies with objects in our ads, we have 'gang rape' ads (see Calvin Klein or Dolce for example). We're fighting against it but it's everywhere.

Edit: All I can think that Mr. Chao is referencing is when he posted a question saying men have the right to have sex with animals, and was upset a woman said a man deserved to have his penis bit off in the process. I stand by that proudly. You rape animals, you deserve to have your penis bitten off, sorry Mr. Chao.

How is it "objectifying" if the women enter voluntarily? Do you think Taylor Lautner got famous for his ability to do calculus?

Interesting that an above user, who has in the past said that mutilating men is "probably deserved", thinks appreciating a person's body is "objectifying", but seeing them as subhuman and deserving of extreme violence is not.

Western culture is not against objectifying women - it uses and abuses the images of women and promotes women as objects non-stop. Feminists don't like it but they seem to be the only ones and have not stopped it at all - in fact I believe it's worse than it's ever been due to easy access to on-line porn.

It is probably a mindset that western societies, mainly Americanised ones, have adopted. If not all, then most child beauty pageants are American based. NZ is being pulled into that kind of external valuing system and it is something we have to stop from increasing by not giving it any attention. Of course, the media had to bring up how one of our teenage beauties won the world teens pageant held in Chicago last year. Of course, the hype did not last long as people here are not into over the top fancy stuff, excessive poshness and superficiality. The girl was lovely of course, but being back in NZ brought her back to earth again.

Sadly, a majority of women objectify themselves in order to get noticed by others, or to get far in things like the visual entertainment, for example, because their looks are taken into more regard than their talent.

There's a reason why Megan Fox has taken more photo shoots (of all kinds...) than she has been in movies.

No one is forcing women to objectify themselves, so I don't know why Men are being blamed. In the end, it all comes down them wanting to please Men, and at times, for attention. That's why most women will go around purposely wearing 'revealing' clothing.

Western culture isn't against objectifying anyone, male or female. We use shallow images of people as sex/money/fame objects to market products rather than discussing the products' merits, we treat the lower classes like they are expendable or not really people. In Western culture, corporations objectify buyers to get them to buy product.

How does western culture not objectify women? objectification of women is all over american media. don't you see how beautiful or hot women along with sex are worshiped in the media? if you are in the US, there is no way you don't know this. There are some more rational women who don't go along with our society's values and are against objectification of women. our culture promotes the objectification of women as part of our values. thats why there are young 14 year old girls who post semi naked pictures of themselves on social media.
