Important hypothetical question!?

So, lets say, hypothetically, that someone is torrenting. Now, this hypothetical person has been torrenting for years. Then one day, a C&D email shows up. Now, does this hypothetical person have to stop torrenting, or just wait for a while before torrenting anything?
