Lalala, ok, What can you tell me about roleplaying?

So, I know that some times people 'RP' (that's what it's called, right?) in online chatrooms. Some times they make their own characters, some times they play characters from their favorite shows. Personally I'm interested in the latter. But I don't know how that...works. Like, what exactly do you do? Do you just go back and forth, having a conversation, just pretending to be different people, or...??? I'm sorry, I'm not very good at explaining myself, but I really wanna try this it sounds like fun! You know, whatever it is...I'm not interested in sexual roleplaying or anything, just something fun..CLEAN and fun. Sooo, help? Please!

There is also CosPlay, where you dress up as your favorites characters then often meet at various game, Anime, or fan conventions.

You can also play an organized game at game cons, this is called LARPing, Live Action RP.
