why did my privacy say public on facebook timeline when i had it set to friends only before timeline?

i had posted silly nonsense back in 2010 on face book, and i don';t remember if i had it on FRIENDS ONLY setting. now, timeline came around and i checked how my face book profile looked to others that are public and a lot of embarrassing things were there. now this is really ruining my week and i cant get through the thought that random people saw this...when face book timeline came around, did it just set my information public when i installed it on my profile? or is there a way to see if i had friends only privacy before timeline?
NOTE: I am talking about BEFORE timeline. before it "made everything public"

Facebook Did Not Change any of your settings from before timeline when timeline applied now when you go to post the privacy controler for your posts is on the bottom you can change it all you got to do is change it once to friends only and you should be all set
