what is the maximum speed they are able to offer (they might promise big but let me know only the maximum speed at which they can provide)

It depends on region to region.
India is a huge country so there is no single fastest service provider across India. Look for your own region. I know in NCR it's Airtel. Ads |

You have to opt for prepaid connection and never a postpaid. |
