Time zone difference problems for virtual project teams?

In my company we use project teams from our USA, and India offices. Given the large time difference between the two countries, we find it almost impossible to have the two teams collaborating in real time using synchronous communication tools (such as video-conferencing or phone).Time zones differences are therefore a serious problem for us (when our USA team is working, our India team is asleep). While I love that Team Space has solved the "face to face" problem that most virtual teams experience.

Can you suggest a solution to this problem (besides the obvious shift or long hour work)??
