Weather affecting internet?
Hey everyone, A few days ago we got a serious winter snow storm, mixed with some freezing rain. My internet has been crapping out on me ever since. I'm unable to play Star Wars The old republic anymore, I can't access my games on Steam, or visit CGSociety anymore.

Can the weather affect my internet performance?

I have no idea were you exactly live and how you receive internet, but here are just some logic guesses:

1. Your internet comes from underground cables, wich have been damaged due to the freezing and icy water drippling trough, Sadly you cant do anything about this since the cables are out of your control.

2. You receive internet by antenna, and it might be frozen/and or been damaged, only thing for this is to get it fixed/replaced.

3. Due to weather damage, the company can only let limited traffic trough, and these games are too much to handle right now. have patience.

4. Your moden./router somehow got damaged.

Depends on the type of network infrastructure your ISP uses, e.g. for cable you have underground lines running to a main data center so weather won't really affect it much, but if you have satellite then the signal can be distorted by say the rain on the dish from a storm or flying debris, etc.

Mostly, this happens because people are staying home, and playing on the Internet. Usage is up.

But your ISP might have suffered some damage, slowing things down as traffic is routed around the damage.
