I need a good, solid place to advertise my business online.?
I have 2 online businesses that I need more traffic too. I know that the places that let you advertise for free do not have a good traffic flow or people serious enough to purchase things. Does anyone know of a good (and cheap) place online to advertise?

Small Business Marketing Strategy: Target the up-and-coming search engines

While Google still rules the roost when it comes to Internet search engines, and Yahoo is firmly entrenched in second spot, a number of new start-ups are hoping to give them a run for their money. And a good small business marketing strategy would be to check them out and see how you can make them work for your site!

Some of the new up-and-comers include:

Powerset : ( http://www.powerset.com ) A "natural language" search engine

Hakia : ( http://www.hakia.com ) A "meaning-based" search engine

Wikia : ( http://www.wikia.com ) A "community-based" search engine

ChaCha : ( http://www.chacha.com ) A "social networking-based" search engine

Snap : ( http://www.snap.com ) A search engine that offers visual previews

It's a smart small business marketing strategy to continue optimizing for the Google, Yahoo, and MSN search engines as they are by far and away the most popular -- but niche search engines could provide new opportunities to reach your market. Be sure to check them out!

Build inbound links to your website.
Most of the directories online charge a one time fee to review your site and add it to their index. Here are three of my favorites:

http://www.avivadirectory.com/cgi-bin/af...?id=kahmer
The more inbound links to your site, the better you will rank with Yahoo / Google / MSN.

Also work on your meta tags. Here is an
article on how they work: http://www.richkahmer.com/meta-tags.html

As with any business, online or offline, you need to advertise where your customers are. This is why beer companies advertise during sports games and shampoo companies advertise on soap operas. Targeted advertising is the key to success.

As mentioned above, using Google AdWords or Yahoo Search Marketing to bid on keywords so that your ad shows up when people search for those keywords is a great way to bring targeted traffic.

Who are your customers? Where do they hang out online?

If your target market is younger people, you might have luck with using MySpace or Facebook as a marketing tool. If you sell wedding favors or invitations, there are community sites dedicated to that topic.

Look for sites, blogs, message boards, etc., where your customers might be hanging out. Then join those communities and become an active member -- don't spam, but be part of the community. That can be some of the best advertising you'll do.
