Debate topic: Facebook bought Whatsapp to complement their chat service, not to violate our privacy?
On the 19th February 2014, Facebook bought messaging service WhatsApp for the record $19 billion. They say: "WhatsApp will complement our existing chat and messaging services to provide new tools for our community. We also expect that WhatsApp will add to our efforts for Internet.org, our partnership to make basic internet services affordable for everyone."

However, other opinions claim that they will use the information of this new half a billion-wide audience" for profiling and commercially exploiting for advertisement purposes", thus violating people's privacy.

What is your opinion?

Please give your arguments, they are very welcome and appreciated! Based on them I will be developing a report for my Bachelor Graduation Project.
