That's a VERY broad question. Successful affiliates use a lot of ways – SEO, paid traffic (PPC, FB ads), email marketing, mobile marketing and really lots more.
Just pay attention – if someone is having a success with some method it doesn't say that you will have the same success. (Or ANY success :-)). You need to choose ONE traffic source (something that you like to do) and be very good using it, and then you can expand to other methods.
