Is It Possible For Someone to Not Get My Message On Facebook?

I was just wondering because I messaged someone on Facebook but we aren't friends yet on there but I just sent him a message on Tuesday at 3:50 asking if it was alright to add him on there and I still haven't heard from him and I know he hasn't read my message because Facebook has this new thing where it shows you if they've seen the message or not, but he hasn't yet apparently. Could it be possible that he didn't get the message since we aren't Facebook friends? When I sent him the message on Tuesday, it said it was sent successfully but did it really? Also, I know he's been on Facebook because on his page it shows his recent activity like it does for everyone's profile, even if it's private and on his it says for his recent activity that he liked this app thingy at 4:56pm. So I don't know what to do? I don't want to assume he didn't get the message but could it be possible? Should I take a risk and just add him, and then message him or what do I do? Facebook can be so complicated at times, gosh, lol. -_-

it's not really that complicated - if they arent on your friends list, they arent notified about it being there.... it goes into their "other" folder and there is no notification for it being there
