Do major companies use website creators to design and host their website?
I am looking into setting up an eccomerce website for my self and was wondering the best way to do so and was thinking how other major companies like sportsdirect.com set up their websites.

Who else would do it.

Websites don't happen from nowhere - a website designer starts from scratch working on the brief provided him/here by the client although a lot of clients have no idea what is needed.

A major business is more likely to have a dedicated server, perhaps on their own premises with a high speed connection like a T1 piped directly to their location. They may well have full time administrative staff in house who manages both the marketing site and in house computer operations, but may well use outside consulting companies or freelancers to initially design and create the company site.

Small time operations are likely to use a shared server hosting account typically costing $8 a month, these are not as safe or secure as dedicated server but require less technical expertise. Setting up the shopping cart software and arranging a credit card payment processor are extra headaches an ecommerce site faces. Small ventures with limited technical abilities may be best off using a store site service that provides more nearly ready to go accounts. Medium size stores may use better software like1Shoppingcart.com for $34 and up a month. If you go interdependent you might find moderate quality site templates and shopping cart software provided by the host or you might look into ready made site templates, like those on Templateonster.com
Actually getting prospects to the site may turn out to be the biggest challenge, setting up a 'store' in a marketplace like ebay or Amazon where you can get more exposure to prospects may be worth the added fees, they also reduce the amount of technical hassle you have to deal with and increase your credibility. (People are wary of new small sites, there are countess Chinese sites pretending to be something else)

Smaller companies will use a designer and a hosting company to do the hard work for them. If you are a major company you will probably have a dedicated IT team and datacenter.

We offer design, hosting, and maintenance service to take the hard work away from you and let you run your company. Feel free to check us out. If you have any questions please contact us we will be happy to help you.
