how to disable firefox as default?

trying to open a rar file to update my tablet,I can download it but firefox (default) wont open it.
Told by file supplier (in Spain) to download chrome, which I did but with same result.
How can I make chrome default just to download the file?
I`m running windows 8.1 64bit

any comments welcome.
(job to discuss the problem with them as they have very little English)
the tablet is Spanish BQ kepler.

When you opened Chrome it should have asked you if you wanted to make it default

Open Google Chrome
Click the button in top right corner (three lines)
Click Settings
Scroll to bottom of page
Change default browser

A rar file needs to be extracted before it can be opened. Use 7-zip or Winrar to extract the contents.
