Latin American Revolution?
I have been working on this World History Project all spring break and I can't find the answer to these questions...

Every question has to do with the Latin American Revolution

Thanks in advance!!!

What form(s) did the protests take? Were they peaceful? Violent?

What acts of civil disobedience were used by protesters?

How did these protests emerge?

How were the protests publicized and organized?

How did information spread?

Did the police or military take action against the protesters?

What impact did the protests have on other areas of the world?

How did the nation/region’s leaders try to stop the spread of information?

Quotes from people outside the revolution about the revolution.

Please provide sources!!

My answers apply to the New Spain (Mexico) only.

1.-There weren´t any protest, the "insurgentes" (revolutionaries) gathered in secrecy because the spanish authorities were hanging the conspirators.

2.- They called to stop the payment of taxes until the King Ferdinand VII was returned to the throne in Spain (Napoleon had invaded Spain and named a new king). Miguel Hidalgo (Mexicos father of the Nation) abolished the slavery in 1812 and called the ex-slaves to the arms.

3 and 4.- There wasnt an event like the tea in Boston or anything. There wasn´t any public events, if the spaniard authorities suspected someone of being a traitor it was jailed. In those days, the people gathered in the tows square or plaza. Miguel Hidalgo, the father of mexican independence was a priest who started the independence by calling the people of his town at midnight by ringing the bells of his church. The church was on the plaza, there he gave a speech and everything started.

5.- The information spread from person to person. The first paper was "Gazeta de Mexico" (Mexico´s Gazzete) which was printed for the first time in 1722. This was a paper controlled by the spaniards.

6.- All the press and the printing presses were controlled by the spaniards. Not until Hidalgo took the city of Valladolid (Morelia) he had access to the printing press. There wasnt any paper in those days in Mexico to tell the news.

7.- Yes, as I told you before, everybody who was a suspect was detained and sent to jail.

8.- This question does not apply, in those days protesters were simply ignored worldwide.

9.- By restricting the paper so the "insurgentes" could not print.

10.- Quotes, none. Remember that all this happened at the same time that Napoleon was conquering Europe and United States were stabilizing their young country, so everybody had other things to think about.

I suppose that you can´t find this information because you have approched from a wrong direction to this proyect. You are thinking that the LatinAmerican Revolution is the same as the "Arab Spring" were the "protesters" gathered using facebook and tweeter and other social media and they organized through it.

In the XIX century, there wasn´t internet, they had to use the mail (letters), messages from one side of the world needed 2 or 3 months to reach the other continent, there was no freedom of speech, no freedom to gather together, etc.

Thats why you cant find information, because you are asking questions that are valid today but in those days werent part of the daily life. Nobody in Mexico would dare or even have a way to ask his king in Spain nothing, his opinion was restricted, plus almost nobody knew how to read.

Maybe you should reconsider your statements for your project.

Hope its usefull.
