how to find person by maiden name?
is there an absolutely free site that searches for free a person by maiden name. I don't know their married name as they were from my high school in the 60's.

Facebook has an option to search by high school. The last time I tried it, it didn't work very well. If she is a facebook user and told them her high school, that might work.

If your class (or hers) has a reunion committee, they may have a current name and address for her. Of course, if you are asking because you are on the search committee for the reunion, that won't help.

If you still live in the area, and a member of her family died recently, also in that area, the obits usually list survived by, with a city. They are free, but you have to go to the library to use the microfilm reader.

There isn't a comprehensive list, partly because no one would fund it, partly because it would make identity theft easier; "Maiden name" is a common security question.

MARRIAGE records are a public document... which does not translate into legally required to be online and/or free. Any website takes money to establish and run. http://www.familysearch.org is a free site..and does have marriage records from many locations.. I don't guarantee it will include all locations and/or time frames. And if someone was married 10 yrs ago, it is always possible, they have since divorced and moved on to another new name. But, I have tracked a number of family, using it. It just isn't guaranteed.
I have had the most luck with Ted's obit suggestion and for someone from the 60s, the parents are statistically likely to have passed away. If the person had BROTHERS, they are also a possible route since they don't change names at marriage.
So, there are ways to do it.. but I also back Ted on the idea that mom's maiden name falls into category of "private info" that can be misused. This is why there are way fewer sites that work with live person's info.

NO not from the 1960's. You might try a site that is for High School reunions, but that has nothing to do with Genealogy, Genealogy is the study and documentation of a specific direct ancestral lineage within a biological Family.
