Why is my skype username my email address?

I already have a skype account where I have a username.
I needed to make a different skype account today, but it never gave me the option to use a username. It signed me up with a microsoft account? My sign in information and thus username is my email address. Is there a way to change this or a way around this? It literally never gave me an option to make a username.

My guess is because it's a new skype account. That happened to me when I first made mine.

If your on a mac...

Click your username (top right corner), then to the right your profile information will show up. Click your name in the profile information window then you will see you have the option to edit it.

If your on a PC...

Click your username (top right corner), your username will become highlighted. From there, you either have the option to delete your current username and replace it, or modify your current one.
