It doesn't make any sense to become the world's most popular person on Facebook in my opinion

It is just a number. Only a fraction of those are anything even resembling friends.

To create many friends on any social Network its not an easy task, Might which profile you showed he can a be famous person if you send friend request unknown people you can be blocked at all.
