Traffic isn't the be-all and end-all of business marketing. If you have no message or no service that people respect or want, no amount of SEO is going to help you.

Get your website out there and noticed by building quality content that causes people to want to know more about your products/services. Engage in quality conversations with relevant people online. Stress your website in any corporate communications. If you have a quality website supporting a quality product/service, you'll get the traffic you need.

I am still setting mine up.

But your header and meta links might need tweaking.

Also you need to advertise your wares, have you an account with Ebay and/or Amazon, to help drive trade to your site, you need to be careful with both, Amazon have strict restrictions on advertising on their site, but anything sold through them should have an advert inside with your website and a promotional material with it.

I have waited over six months before even starting my website so that I have the money to help promote it, advertising costs.

You could also try going on forums that talk about the stuff you sell, I leave comments on History sites with my web site link?

It's too bad you didn't share more details about your site's operation...

If you have a solid predictable sales conversion rate you could budget paid advertising, some businesses that tend to get repeat customers don't mind breaking even on that first new customer sale, an active email newsletter subscription program can help get those return customers at a minimal cost.

Those relying on search engine traffic are at the mercy of algorithm changes, at least you should be tracking your month to month ranking for a list of perhaps 50 target keywords, those ranking near the top 10 are worth an additional content and anchor text backlink campaign, in some instances a competitor moving up can hurt your search position, studies in the past have found that increasing your page 1 search result by 2 positions doubles your traffic for that keyword.

The Google Keyword Tool helps identify phrases that should be incorporated in your content page meta titles, header and body text, perhaps in guides or a blog in a store site , longer category introductions and product descriptions can also distinguish your store.

You could use either the free rankchecker for firefox http://www.link-assistant.com/rank-tracker/ to generate a search ranking report for the list of keywords, the latter has some other analysis functions.
