My computer says it is connected to internet but it isn't?

I have a Dell inspiron 15 with windows 8
I'll be using the internet and it says it is connected but every 30 or so minutes it disconnects from internet while still saying it is connected. It's really frustrating and I thought it would be because there could be too many devices using the wi-fi but even when my laptop is the only device using wi-fi it still does it. It doesn't do it when it is connected with a cable only the wi-fi. Is there any way i can stop it?

My guess is that your internet service is unstable, goes periodically from highs to lows and recovering. The same happens to me and I trace the issue to this. When incoming signal from ISP gets too low, there might be an interruption of the wifi signal and even my router get's hung up so I must to turn it off for about 2 minutes to restart stable..Conected to LAN this low point normally won't interrupt the internet connection though some tears ago, when internet was very bad, I had to reset my modem to..Your laptop still recieves the signal from the router but the internet connection is gone. This problem is sometimes quite serious for me while downloading, so when it gets critical I prefer to download from my computer connected to the internet through LAN and transfer file to USB drive.
