does yahoo delete your answers account for inactivity?

i saw someone say this recently, but ive seen users who've had accounts since 2006 and they have not visited answers for years ? been inactive....and there accounts are still there.

so what is it ? is there a new policy where you have to keep your yahoo answers account active and log in regularly ?

Hm, interesting question and sorry I don't know the answer. I've been here since 2008 and have acquired a lot of "fans" since then. I recently browsed through and saw that most of them haven't been active recently, although I have come across some that haven't asked or answered any questions in years have suddenly gotten some points. I assume in that case, perhaps someone has voted one of their long-forgotten answers as BA. But anyway, their account did seem to still be alive, even without much activity.

They all do after a certain amount of time if the account is totally inactive, if it's just infrequency, that i'm not sure about.

In the beginning yahoo answers accounts around 2005-2006 were linked to and dependent on having a Yahoo account. If you had a yahoo account you had an answers account it just used the display name you chose when you first visited Yahoo Answers.

The system later changed to allow users to have yahoo answer specific user-names and allow the use of third party sign-in accounts like facebook and google without having a yahoo account.

All accounts are indeed subject to inactivity triggers which cause deletion. Yahoo dependent accounts are governed by Yahoo-wide inactivity triggers, accessing any Yahoo service 'refreshes' the account activity so if you use Yahoo mail frequently that keeps your account alive for instance - you don't have to visit any Yahoo service in particular you just have to authenticate with Yahoo's servers for the use of any service. Yahoo accounts are deleted after a period of inactivity for 12 months [1]

Accounts that use facebook and google have no set time period for deletion, they have been deleted after as little as 6 months of inactivity; these accounts are subject to Yahoo's General terms and conditions [2] which do not explicitly state the length of any period of inactivity it is simply quoted as being any "extended" period of inactivity.

The general rule is if you have a Yahoo based account then you are safe for 12 months from the last time you sign into any yahoo service; if you are not Yahoo based then 6 months.
