Adding contacts to Skype for windows 8?

Helping a friend, he has Skype for windows 8, and cant find the add contact button thats supposed to be at the bottom of the screen, he says its not there, what should he do? Its on his computer.

App: Click on the search icon at the top of the screen, type in the username, press enter, click on search directory, click on the person you want to add and click add to contacts.

Desktop: Near your name, there should be an icon with a person with a plus next to it. Click it. Then type in the username and add them.
