Do blog commenting still works in SEO?
As Google and other search engines are changing their algorithm day by day, and the work which we have been doing in the past for optimizing the website does not help in ranking the website in a greater way.

I have read in an article that stop building backlinks from blog commenting, social bookmarking and directory submission. But instead go in for updating your site with good, fresh and quality content which will help in indexing the site and getting ranked. Also, most of the commentators in blogs, does not sharing the good content that are related to the post, they are simply sharing some irrelevant comment and placing their website link over there.

What is your opinion on blog commenting? Please share some useful tips.

I have two opinions on this topic. First, If we talk about getting a back-link, PR growth and Website authority growth, my answer is no. Because most of the blog commenting links are no-follow now-a-days.

Second, if we talk about branding, public relationships and reputation growth, My answer is yes. Because your valuable blog comment will help you to connect with many bloggers and same niche people.

Blog commenting is the epitome of spam, and only dubious SEO companies still do it. Most sites that allow it are already make your backlinks "no follow", so posting comments with it is nothing more than a waste of valuable time and effort.

It's spam, plain and simple. Reputable companies like jointplan.co.uk are provide better SEO and they use updated tactics at that. Doing so is also insulting to the writer of the blog post - he created that quality content and you're just in it to leech on the traffic?

Just go on and do better and non-spammy methods. You'll do the Internet a favor Smile

I'm agreed with Rozer. If you are doing blog commenting just for taking back-links then this will not work as blog commenting links are generally no-follow. But if you are genuinely commenting something relevant to the post and writing some good opinion and suggestions to the post then yes it will help you in online reputation and branding. So whenever you do blog commenting don’t just do for the heck of it rather try to provide some valuable comment or information related to that topic because that will not only help other readers but also add value to your online reputation as well.

In SEO perspective Commenting on other blog's has very little use..
Apart from SEO you can create a brand name and of course drive visitors to your blog with blog commenting..
But be sure to maintain to add value to comments
