slow internet need help?
im living with my boyfriend and his dad said we are suppose to have 17 mb/s but we only have 2 with .5 upload and i checked the speed at speed test it said 2 download .5 upload and 72 ping i didnt tell him i did the test but he said a while back because of bad wiring we get less than 17 but if we had bad wiring wouldnt the ping be lower?

Yes, bad wiring or false crimping may cause speed issues.

But i think you must make a change in the router and change the dns.

Try Google DNS,
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4

if changing dns doesn't improves speed, then surely change the wiring and re crimp it before changing the wire.

Hi,

It could be but bad wiring is often a big problem.

To test the wiring just plug the router / hub directly into the master sockets test port then try the speed test again.

If it is still bad then it is not the wiring and may be a telephone wire fault, fixing that is down to your telephone provider.

Or you could be a long way away from the nearest exchange, to see if that is the case use a speed test that can compare with other houses in your are to see if they are getting a better service than you are.
