How much business will new website attract?
I just set up a website for my step-fathers' tow truck business. I put it on the open directory, different search engines, yellow pages, facebook, free classifieds. Going to put it on ezine articles. I read havign a website brings in 5-40% more business. Is what I'm doing going to bring in more customers? How long does it take to get new customers? I know it can take a while-depends how it's marketed. I just don't want to be doing all of this work for no results-new customers. Here's a link to the website-if you have any suggestions on changing it to bring in more customers. I made it a very simple page. I think the simpler the better-less is more.

You have to have your website marketed correctly and that's the main thing. If people can't find you, they can't get a hold of you to get your service. Besides having your site correctly with the proper features, including SEO, good headers, regular traffic, and a toll free number (go to tollfreenumber.org) you should make sure to have social media pages as well - Facebook and Twitter are the biggest. Get's the word out there for free.

You might have one person a month from your city see the eszinearticle, they are as often used to help the search ranking of the company site the article credits links to. Probably not a good local marketing strategy, though a site can be one more place to authenticate your business for the search engines.

Getting into the free local listings that popup when someone searches Towing, your city, is probably the most powerful way to be found, those other directory listings can help strengthen the position of a local results. Google shows 7 A-G labeled stick pins on the first page of results, it might take some effort for a business in a competitive field to be seen there..

Google gets about 65% of the searches:

And don't forget Bing

It probably helps to also have a company web site mentioning the address, the search ranking of the site may reflect on the position of your local listing. You could use a free host with a paid company domain name costing about $12/yr

Set up ways to measure traffic (simple stuff like running google analytics) on your website.
That will give you an idea on how people are using your site and you can note any changes to traffic from any changes you have made.
