Where would I advertise a computer programming service?
I write a certain kind of program, (not mentioning it on here, don't want to advertise) specifically, and was wondering, how I would advertise it. I've tried Craigslist, but I don't live near any major cities, who have businesses that really need programs written.

Sounds like you're doing the write thing. You're selling a computer service so you're mobile; you've got a computer(s), a conference phone (probably), e-mail, US Mail/FedEx, texting, a Facebook page for yourself highlighting You. Soooo, start advertising in the major cities both close and far - sounds like you believe in your product so if you think you've got something, go for it. Craigslist has cities galore - you'll just have to pick a few and post to them several times a day if you want to be seen - WAY too many postings as folks like me are just trying to do simple data recovery services and are clogging space from guys like you. Of course, a lot depends on what type of service you're selling - if it's more of a product, remember that CL is more of a passive sight; if it's a unique item, how would someone know to come to the sight to find it. If that's the case, you'd need to go elsewhere to "buy" ad space - again, depending on your product.

Other than trade journal (for the trade you write for) ads, a website (your own) would probably be best.
