How can I limit or remove distractions when browsing the internet such as 'Today on Yahoo'?
Sometimes I will look stuff up on Yahoo and other websites that are of interest but become distracted by stuff like Today on Yahoo or just browsing the internet in general always lands me on senseless entertainment news/gossip, viral news, current affairs usually I have a purpose for being on the website so I don't want to outright block it but it's those side columns that feature most popular news, featured videos the traffic drivers that want to make money. I use Adblock plus which is great for blocking advertisements but it's these traffic driving websites are the new form of money making advertisements and distraction.

Is there a simple way to partially block some parts of a website ? cause usually I'm pretty good I don't get distracted by stuff unless it's directly and repeatedly put in front off me. Sometimes I'll watch videos on utube (selected content that I want to view) but then end up passive viewing featured or recommended videos that catch my eye which really wastes my time.

Thanks
Disabling javascript on certain websites seems to be one of the ways ? If I disable javascript on yahoo it prevents Today on Yahoo from showing but I'm sure there is a more effective way ?
