Approximatly 7-10 people are connected to my internet across wifi and direct connection to the routers. Would connecting my ethernet to the modem instead of the router speed up my upload speed and would that many people being on my internet be why my download is 57 mbps download and only 0.54 mbps upload? Even if they are not downloading/uploading anything and are just connected or streaming the web?

That depends on depends on a lot of factors, do you use torrents, and if so do you make sure to stop them, there is a laundry list of reasons, but it is plausible that is the reason why

1. The core of your question seems to be upload speed on the internet through put. What did u use to check the speed of the download . The best way to determine download and upload speed is sites like http://speedtest.net/
Checking it with a download is not going to give a correct answer.

2. What pipe are you on ie. what bandwidth did you buy. Upload/ download.

3. Connecting directly to the modem would be faster since you would avoid using the wireless router since wifi has its own bottlenecks.

4. If you do torrents they will affect your bandwidth.

yes because your Ethernet is a computer in itself the web has a max memory and all those people logging on to that one web browser or Ethernet can be the problem you can try to reset it.
