What can fix this Instagram glitch?

What can fix this Instagram glitch?
I am trying to follow my cousin on Instagram but when I type in his username it doesn't show up. Then when I go to my other cousins photos in a picture he is tagged in I can see his username. I click on his name and I click follow it says following then almost immediately it goes back to follow. I have restarted my iPhone re installed Instagram and logged out and back in. Oh and my cousin has over 4500 people following him could that have any affect on it ?

Have you tried logging into Instagram on a computer and following him then? The bug on your iPhone may not happen on the website version of Instagram.
