What happens when an email address is deleted? (company deletes your personal email as result of termination)?

And if mail has been forwarded to another email address (say, gmail or another free email service), will it continue to do so, even after the original email has been deleted?

Additional info:
I got my email in addition to a broadband subscription, and when I terminated my subscription two years ago i set up a POP or IMAP-system (not sure which) to forward my emails to another email address.
After the termination of my broadband subscription I have been receiving the emails sent from the original email address that I have registered on countless websites etc. but i recently got an email informing me that that email address will be deleted in two weeks.

Will I continue to receive emails as usual?
I would love some input here..
