When I look at the available networks, it sees all my neighbour's networks, but not ours. It worked perfectly well before so I guess the router is ok. I have turned off both the router and computer many times and it still doesn't work. I have also pressed the reset button on the router, but still nothing.

I'm not very technical at all, so if any one has any answers, please keep it simple. Thank you.
Yes, I should have said that other devices can see our network and it works when plugged in to the router.

if you can see other networks and not your own it is unlikely to be due to the windows update, more probably there is a problem with the router.
Can any other devices see your network?

I would contact your ISP and get them to test the router

I don't know whats causing your problem. But to avoid problems like this turn the automatic update feature off. Only apply the updates a couple of weeks after others have applied them and let them have the problems and not you. You can always go back to Yahoo answer every week or so and see what problems people are having.
I found out about this from one of the authors to " Windows for Dummies" books named Woody Leonhard. After buying his book and using it for reference I found that he has a blog http://www.askwoody.com. I check this once a week or so and he tell you which updates are causing problems and which are not.
I know you say you are not technical but this may help you not get into problems.
Give it a try. The blog is free and you can check his book it you want at a library.
Good Luck. I hope this helps you.
