I received an email wanting to know how much I would charge for a month's worth of lessons for a guy's son who would want two hour lessons twice a week... which is an odd request to begin with. Then I broke down the price for him and he responds with this:
Hello, Am glad to hear from you and everything sound good to me, Am Patrick smith by name, my son is coming for an holiday in your (CITY), His name is Eric and he is 15 years old .I want him to be busy during the day, because i will be in SPAIN for business trip for a month that is why i want him to be lesson, Am okay with your price and i have decided to let him attend your lesson and he will be coming 2 hour in a day in the Afternoon, also get back to me with your own convenient time and day you want my son to be coming in 2 days in a week and ihave Someone (Nanny) that will always drives him down to your lesson center...I will be happy if you can help my son because my son is highly interested in your tutor lesson and he can avoid to miss it. Kindly get back to me with your information below. 1.Your Full Name............ 2.Street Address............ 3.City, State, Zip Code..... 4.Cell Phone Number......... The reason why i need the information is that the payment will sent to you through Usps Or FedEx Courier, So that the courier can deliver the payment to you. Hope you understand me better. Thanks Pat. ------------ what's the deal with the "your (CITY)" part?? Is this some computer program thing that sends out mass scams and was supposed to put my city in that spot?? How is getting my address and contact info going to lead into him scamming me?? Something seems fishy but I just want to make sure... Ads |

Yes, it is a SCAM.
The email most likely originated in West Africa. They send variations of the same email to anyone selling anything on CL. Here is how it works: The scammer will agree to pay you and send you a check. However, when you get the check, it will be for much more than agreed. The scammer will blame his secretary/assistant. He will then tell you to cash the check and send the overage back to him via Western Union. He will probably tell you to keep a little extra for your "trouble". Then, a few weeks later, you are notified that the check was fake. This leaves you on the hook for covering the bad check and possibly even facing criminal fraud charges yourself. |

These scammers send that same mail out to hundreds of people a day around the country which us why they didn't put in a city name
It's a typical Nigeran fake check scam. NEVER give your home address to anyone on Craigslist until you have met them in a public location first to verify their identity The fact they start a sentence with "Am" instead of "I am" is typical of West African syntax. Nigerians also say "am Patrick by name" instead of "my name is Patrick" Do not respond It's already been reported http://www.scamguard.com/categories/othe...-his-info/ Or here with a few changes http://scamvictimsunited.com/phpBB2/view...=22&t=5522 -- scroll to the 4th post Here he says his name is Ruth https://www.ar15.com/archive/topic.html?...&t=1164664 There are over 3000 reports of this scam already |
