Facebook message to a guy?

I'm a junior in high school, and want to start a conversation on facebook with this guy I really like. We've talked a few times, said hey in the hallways, and he went on this dinner date thing with me at school. I don't know what he thinks about me - I'm pretty sure he doesn't like me in that way because we barely know each other and I think he's crushing on someone else. Anyway, what should I say to him to start a conversation on facebook? And what should we talk about? Thans!
