Is it legal for a teacher to read a students Facebook messages?
Okay, so I was on camp a couple of days ago and the teacher took my phone off me for using it on the bus, the next day I asked if I could have it back and she said she needed to hold onto it for a bit longer. When she gave my phone back she read all of my messages from the notification bar on the front screen and questioned me about them and took a photo of them. Is this against the law?

It is illegal for a teacher to access and read a students Facebook account without explicit permisson from the Student, their parent, the School District, and Facebook Inc. If all parties do not agree then the Teacher can be charged for invading the students privacy and the students account may even be taken down.
If your teacher did this to you then tell your parents, and report it to both the police and the school district so your teacher can face the correct punishments. Remember though, that you did give her your phone which technillay means you gave her access to your Facebook, which is against their Terms and Conditions and may result in an account suspension (although I highly doubt this will happen given your case). |

Its upto you that you are allowing that person to interfere in your personal life or not. In my opinion no should ask any question regarding your personal life or social media activity.
