when I load into my Facebook, the friends that appear on the side are almost always the same. I also read somewhere that FB does not offer any way of showing you who views your page but the friends that appear are the most frequent visitors of your page, is this true, can anyone elaborate?

Friends at the side are 'people whom you interact with the most'. They are people who comment or like or chat with you the most. It doesnt have to be your most frequent visitor, it may even be the other way around.

ipeace, I disagree. I have someone who is always my #1 top friend and its someone I rarely interact with. I also don't think its random or someone who views your profile the most. I believe the ones that pop out the most are people you don't interact w. So its a way facebook letting you know, "hey this is your friend too." I have friends that interact w/ me a lot not show up that much.

According to Facebook:

“Friends who you publicly interact with the most appear first on your profile. Examples of public interactions include Wall posts, comments and mutually attended events — Facebook will never show friends based on whose profiles you choose to view or who you interact with over messages and chat.”
