what happens when a student tries to kill themselves/does kill themself?
I'm writing a short story for AS level english lit and the main characters girlfriend kills herself and is pronounced dead around 11:04pm Sunday night, around what time monday morning would the students find out?
How would they tell the students?

Also, if a student tries to kill themself, do they have to announce it or what?

depends if they have roommates or not. and if they had plans with somebody whom might check in on them if they dont show. id say around 10-11 ish if she had something to do in the morning. Normally schools dont announce that kind of stuff, its normally spread around by the people whom knew them. but school events are usually held for sed person, mostly because alot of peapole may feel like assholes for doing something minor to her or something.

There is a tacit agreement btwn universities and the media about reporting suicide by youngsters. Much depends on the circs of how the body is discovered and by whom. Despite social media, most student suicides usually around exam time go unreported in the media. This is to deter others in similarly desperate circs who might be tempted to follow suit. Certainly police would have attended and an inquest would have followed. It would take time to ascertain the cause of death. Each university may have different rules about how such information is revealed and to whom. See http://www.pssg.gov.bc.ca/coroners/child...8-2012.pdf for one jurisdiction's approach. See esp p. 18 on media reporting.
