Are there any other countries in the world where retailers advertise items without the tax?

I've recently moved to Canada and find it strange that you see an item price marked but when you want to buy it you have to add the HST. I've been to Spain France Italy Cyprus India and Holland and the price I see is the price I paid.

America is the same. It is a North American thing mostly. I have lived in Asia and the prices are taxes in as well. It is so annoying to have to try and figure out what things will come to after tax every time.

When the GST was introduced in Canada a national junior dept store, Zellers (now kaput) tried to advertise GST-in prices. Didn't work. Don't know why. They quickly gave up.
