Why list yourself as a public figure on Facebook?
There's a girl I know from high school who now lives in Los Angeles. She doesn't have a Facebook account but lists herself as a public figure.

She's not even famous and yet she lists herself as a public figure? What's the purpose of this?

It's like a Twitter or Instagram. She's trying to get followers (fans on Facebook) instead of strictly friending people. It could be an attempt to "brand" herself and make herself marketable. She could be trying to monetize her online fame or something. Most people who try fail though. There are too many people who try to do this.
