It would depend on what level of case we are talking about, Local, State, or Federal and what you are being accused of (or are victim of). So for instance if someone accused you (or who ever) of trafficing Child Porn, it can go on for a long time (at the Federal as well as State level) with all your (theirs) online fingerprint being targeted and analysed. Usually though with those kinds of cases you (they) would be contacted by law enforcement and your ISP will let you know that a warrent was served on you internet usage (this part will happen to both the accused and accusser). If we are talking about simple cyberbulling at the Local level, it will most likely be resolved within a relatively short amount of time unless we are talking about a hate speech crime in which case it can once again go to the State or Federal Level.

For real answers on this issuse I would encourage you to seek legal counsel no matter the side of the coin your on whether it be the accussed or accussor. Your attourney will have access to considerable amounts of information and access to law enforcement.
