Has my email sent or not?

I sent an email on my iPad. My hotmail is set up through the mail icon. I got an email the next day saying This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification. THIS IS A WARNING MESSAGE ONLY.YOU DO NOT NEED TO RESEND YOUR MESSAGE.
Delivery to the following recipients has been delayed.
However this never happens and I'm unsure why. And the email is in my sent folder so I dunno. Has it actually sent? And if not, is it going to?

It might have already been delivered, but there is no way to know other than to ask the person you sent to.

Usually, if the email service gives up, it will send you a different message that is not a warning like the one you received - it will say it gave up. But that might not come for a day or two because the email service will retry a few times.
