I would recommend that you look into shopify.com" I have had quite a bit of experience with this platform (and many others) and it has the best combination of functionality, flexibility and ongoing upgrades and bug fixes. I'll cover a couple of important things to consider plus good elements about Shopify.

Here are a couple of the important ones.

- eCommerce is it's own animal on the development side and ongoing functionality. While in theory once it's "set up" everything will be fine, reality is that you are likely to run into many needs for updates long term. Many platforms work great at the very beginning, but even minor modifications can cause all sorts of issues.

- Shipping costs are one of the biggest factors in profit/loss for most online stores. With shopify, and to be fair many other platforms, being able to connect in real time to Fedex, UPS, USPS API's (application programming interface) which allows you to get real time shipping costs and charge the customer real cost is very important.

- You want whichever platform you go with to all flexibility in design and implementation by allowing your developers to access the source code and implement custom design. Many eCommerce platforms have a lot of functionality options but often restrict access to the source code. This is very important long term.

- SEO factors are also very important to consider in your decision for a eCommerce platform. While many have great functionality and tracking of transactions, very few are doing a good job in allowing you to provide SEO factors that are needed long term. Things such as custom URLS, tags, meta data, and so on are vital toward your long term success. This also has relevance in your advertising campaigns and many options, most importantly Google Adwords, directly take the quality of your website and SEO factors into account in relation to how much it costs your per click.

I hope this is helpful to you, as many things were covered not just platforms. The things relayed in my answer come from experience in many eCommerce platforms and for no other reason!
