My family judges everyone harshly. My parents judge my brother's friends, spy on their Facebook pages, and if my mom even sees me in the same room as a girl, she will automatically assume we're dating, she'll tell my entire immediate and extended family and talk about how much she disapproves. Its really annoying, I feel really uncomfortable inviting friends over, or doing anything with friends, because I don't want me or my friends to be judged. What do I do about this?

Your parents are being watchful,a little overdoing sure.Avoid inviting friends over, that's the best you can do for your friends.Ignore what does not concern you.

I agree with See LeVel. They are just caring so much about you.
If you really want to invite friends over, then you should talk to your parents and tell them what you think. |

Don't take this personally, but do you come from an Asian decent family? I do. I think most Asian families/parents are judgemental of their kids friends. They want the best for you. I mean it. This includes having good friends (who are successful in school & not into drugs for example-I know it sounds cheesy but true). Let it be a male or female friend of yours, I don't think your parents will ever approve of your friendship until you prove to them you are responsible. Introduce your friends to your parents, invite them for dinner, play football, basketball whatever sport together with your parents & friends. You need to step up & let them know you have great friends who support you in life. My father dissapproved of my friends. I wasn't allowed to invite friends either because he thought they would steal. Turns out I invited my friends regardless & they obviously didn't steal. I choose my friends wisely. Your parents will understand someday.

It might be better to just not bring them if that's how it will always be, I've known families where the parents just never stopped being judgmental and eventually the kids grew up and moved.
