IPhones offer a simple, user friendly experience with their operating system. iOS is easy to figure out in a day. iPhones also allow for a more unified experience - syncing everything through iTunes / iCloud. iOS offers way more apps than android and the apps that they do offer are of higher quality. It seems that devs seem to put alot of attention on iPhone apps as opposed to Android ones. With iOS, you're only given one choice of hardware and if you don't like it you're screwed.
Android is much more flexible than iOS. With Android, you have much more customization and options. You can literally personalize ANY aspect of the phone. Not to mention that Android is on different manufacturers- so you have your choice between Samsung, HTC, LG, Motorola, etc. They all provide a different look and feel and may even have a manufacturer custom UI (which some may like or dislike.) Android phones come in a variety of specs- there's low end, mid range, and high end. This gives us alot of options if we're budget conscious or not too tech savvy. Many argue (and I admit that I used to) that Android is for people who are really into technology. This isn't necessarily true- manufacturers and carriers and Google themselves have made Android much more straight forward (especially with 4.0, the newest version.) while still not limiting the consumers options. Although android doesn't have as many apps as iOS, it is starting to get more apps quickly - even the ones that were "iPhone only" like instagram and Temple Run.
Both have their perks but I prefer Android more. (I'm pretty sure my bias shows, lol) iOS isn't catching up fast enough. It looks too cartoonish and the hardware is mediocre. I believe technology is meant to serve us- so I shouldn't be told what my phone should look like and what the OS looks like.
