Registering a new company? (easy question)?

I want to reserve my company name, (it is available), and I am going to begin creating the prototype of my product soon here but wont establish the business for about 3-4 months from now, so I might as well save on the Ca franchise tax and all the other paperwork and fees til the time comes for me to kick off business and order inventory. Can I only secure the fictitious name for now, and not worry about anything else? Or must I fill other forms out and register in other ways?

you will have to register with the newspaper and get your business license but only do it if you really want that name otherwise you are going to be paying twice
