What is wrong with my facebook messanger app?

Since two days ago, I cant click on my fb messenger app. It is darkened and says "waiting" where it should say the name of the app. I tried tuning my ipod 5 off and back on again but it still comes up the same and does nothing when i click it. I went to the app store to try to delete it or open it from there but it also did nothing. When i get a message it will come up on my Facebook app and look like it has a new message notification at the bottom but when i click it at the bottom the number just goes away. My apps update automatically but i went to the updates anyway and the app is in there but there is nothing i can do to it. It also says "free" and when i click on it "install" as if the app wasn't already on my ipod but when tap it it still doesn't do anything and as soon as i click somewhere else it goes back to "free". I have no problems with the messages on my actual facebook account and message threw a laptop with out any problems. I reeeeally need someones help ;( this is getting really anoying.

It shouldn't do that...but what I would do is keeped urself signed in your internet account with your password saved, so when u go onto fb on the internet, it will open immediately

This May Be a Problem With Your Apple Ipod if Its Not Doing Anything Contact Apple For Help
