How to get the guy i like to like me back?

Okay so lets say that there's a guy i have liked on and off so for a few months i like him then next i don't but when i like him i really like him and no matter how hard i try i cant stop liking him. okay so there have been about two times when he thought i liked him cause somehow he found out one was ages ago and one was fairly recent. the recent one when he found out he was telling his friends at work about it and didn't talk to me for a whole day until i told him it was all a lie. he talks to me everyday and we don't really hang out at lunch time apart from when he sits with my group of friends but thats about it. some classes we have together i try to sit near him like i.c.t and vcd i sit next to him and he doesnt seem to mind. when we talk we usually just talk about random things and whenever he talks to me he always looks me in the eyes. i have tried making little hints without being too obvious but i don't think its really working. my friends say he might just be scared cause he's had his heart broken before but i think i have been friend zoned. one of my guy friends used to best friends with the guy i like but now their just friends and my guy friend seems to think this guy likes me but i still don't believe him. also whenever i try talking to him on social media he see's it but doesn't reply but he's not really the internet type/ he barely goes on social media.
1. does he like me at all or should i try my hardest to give up?
2. how can i tell him i like him without making it too obvious?

The only bad thing is i tried telling him i liked him ages ago and he saw it but never replied and i felt like an idiot so i told him it was a dare....

Boys are really hard to read most of the time. Playing the guessing game is very annoying believe i know exactly how you're feeling at the moment haha I know this is hard but just coming out straight forward and tell him that you like him might be hard but he'll give the fact of how he feels about you so you know. If he doesn't then its the chance to move on. Its very hard to make someone like you cause you cant just force them but he seems to look you in the eyes when talking so that's a positive sign however, it might just be what he does. You have nothing to lose girl just remember you have nothing already, you don't even have him so what else can you lose.
